RYOTA x KAZUKI - The first meeting
"Ryota!"
I ignored them. I knew that they were screaming after me, wanting me to go to them and smile when they congratulated me.
"Ryota, wait!" Someone ran up next to me. Kiyoshi.
He grabbed my shoulder and forced me to stop.
"Come here now", he said while dragging me to all the other peoples. They all looked at me with a big smile on their faces. And as I thought: They all started to sing Happy birthday. I just stood there with a poker face and tried to not feel too embarrassed.
"Thanks." I forced myself to smile.
The truth is, that I hated to be celebrated. It had always been like that. I just couldn't understand why some people thought it was fun to grow one year older, or technically - one day. It wasn't anything special, except that you got irritating attention from people around you, or well, from the ones that knew that today was your birthday.
I woke up this morning. It was the usual routine - Wake up alone. Eat breakfast or skip it. Put on some clothes, go to school. Nothing different from the other days. So I didn’t care that today was my birthday. Seventeen or not – it didn’t make any difference.
“Are you going to have a party to celebrate?” Kiyoshi buffed on me.
“What? No, you know I don’t like parties anymore,” I said.
Anymore… I kept on thinking. Digging in my memories, the past. I was on a party once but it didn’t end well. I met a girl who turned out to be wild and crazy. And when I woke up next to her the other day, I felt disgusting. Not because she was ugly or something. She was actually really cute and nice. But it didn’t feel right. So, because of that lame happening, I’ve always stayed away from parties and stuffs like that. Therefore, I’ve planned to celebrate my birthday on my own.
Kiyoshi nodded at me. “So, what are you going to do then?”
“I think I’ll just go to the library or something,” I answered.
A few people from the crowd started to laugh when they heard the word library. I looked at them and sighed.
“Ryota”, said Kiyoshi and dragged me aside. “If you change your mind you can always call me. I’d be more than glad to celebrate your birthday with you! We can just chill if you’d like, of course you don’t have to join a party to feel alright.”
I smiled at him. “Thanks for your understanding, but I think I’ll do something on my own this time. Maybe we can do something next year.”
“But it’s so many days left! It’s like, a whole year!”
“Yes, so you just have to hold on and wait for so long.” I laughed.
“Dumb-ass. Anyway, have a nice day and happy birthday once again, mate!”
I nodded gently at him.
The wind was blowing as I walked on the street on my way to the library. It was spring, and the leaves had turned to red and yellow. The only thing they were waiting for was to reach the ground and lie there forever. I liked spring, it wasn’t anything wrong with it, except that it was very cold.
All suddenly ran someone up to me, but I couldn't see who it was, the only thing I felt was a punch in the head and then it all went black.
Voices. I opened my eyes to blink and found myself lying on the ground. My head ached.
"Hello?" whispered someone over my head. A hand was being reached in front of me, I grabbed it.
When I finally stood on my two feets could I feel the illness from the punch I'd got.
"What happened?" I murmured.
The person looked at me. I saw that it was a girl. A typical random girl: Blonde long hair, blue eyes, tall, skinny. No wonder she was the only one who wanted to help me when I was... dying, or something.
"You died", she said and laughed.
"No, seriously."
"Seems like you don't have any humor. You got punched by a gang, three guys. I couldn't see their faces clearly. Altrough, they ran away afterwards. Have you done anything to them?"
"What? No, I'm sure that I don't know any of those people."
"Hm, weird." She looked at me. "Atleast you'll be fine. Well, I need to go now, but have a nice day and make sure to not bump into unknown peoples, OK?"
I nodded. "Thanks for your help!"
I'm not gonna lie. The punch did made me want to cry for one second, but I held it in. It really hurt, and my head still ached.
The library was empty, at least I thought so. You could almost hear the silence whisper between the walls.
I walked over to a table and sat down. That's when I saw him. Kazuki. He lied on a table next to where I sat. There was a book in front of him. Was he sleeping?
"Hello?" I whispered. No reaction. "Hello?" I repeated and poked him on his arm.
Slowly, did he open his eyes. "Huh, who are you?" Gasp.
I looked at him. That's right - he didn't know who I was. Yet, did I know a lot about him. Don't ask me why. I'm not a stalker.
"What do you want?" he asked me when he noticed that I wasn't going to answer the question.
